The Right Way to Burn a Candle

Burning a candle can’t be that hard, right? Wrong. If you’re going to spend the money on a great smelling candle, you should get the most out of it. Here’s how to do it.

STEP 1:

Before you go anywhere near a lighter or a match, first trim the wick down to 1/4’’. This needs to be done each time you’re getting ready to burn.

STEP 2:

The first time you’re burning your candle, make sure to let it burn until the full diameter of the container is melted. This will prevent tunneling.

STEP 3:

You should only be burning your candle for a max of about 2-3 hours. Once the wick begins to smoke or “mushroom” you are starting to cause damage to the candle and won’t have an optimal experience.

STEP 4:

When extinguishing, don’t cover with the lid. You should blow the candle out and let it finish smoking before covering. This will ensure the best scent for the life of the candle.

STEP 5:

Buy more candles. Especially when they are all natural, hand-poured, and toxin free. There is no such thing as having “enough” or “too many” candles in the house.
